Defender Steve Cadet
The 37-year-old Hempstead resident joined the Long Island Rough Riders of
the United Soccer Leagues in their original season of 1994 and helped lead
the team to the 1995 national championship. The Academy's head coach, Paul Riley, served as the captain of that Rough Rider squad.
While Rough Riders such as Chris Armas, Kevin Anderson, John Difley, Tony Meola and Jim Rooney went on to play in Major League Soccer, Cadet and Riley
continued to live on Long Island and play for the Rough Riders. They would share in another Rough Riders' national championship, in 2002, with Cadet as a player and Riley now his coach.
"Steve is experienced, bright, clever positionally and obviously adds leadership to our team. He has been around the block a few times but still maintains a high level of fitness and crispness," commented Coach Riley. "A great defender who plays within himself and does the simple things well."
Away from the soccer field, Cadet likes to have his poetry published.
