Midfielder Carlo Espinosa

EspinosaThe East Islip resident continues to make history. He was the first and only Long Islander to ever play in the German Bundesliga. On May 19, 2007, he became the first player ever to score for the Long Island Academy.

"Carlo is an exciting player with a great engine and terrific one on one skills," commented Long Island Academy head coach Paul Riley. "He will provide speed and width to our attack plus his set pieces will cause the opposition many problems."

Carlo grew up playing soccer in the Long Island Junior Soccer League, for East Islip High School, in the Empire State Games plus as a member of the U.S. National Youth Teams from 1997 to 2000.

At East Islip High, Espinosa was All-League, All-Conference, adidas All-American and the Suffolk County Player of the Year.

It was then on to the Karlsruher Sport Club in Germany.

"It was quite an experience briefly playing in the Bundesliga," Espinosa said.

He returned home to play for the Long Island Rough Riders and now he stars for the Long Island Academy.
