The Freeport resident played his club soccer for New York Hota of the Long Island Junior Soccer League. It was then on to Adelphi University, where he led the Panthers to the 2006 Atlantic Soccer Conference title. Michael was named to the All-Conference team and was three times honored as ASC Goalkeeper of the Week in 2006. He also was honored as a NCAA Scholar-Athlete.

Michael played 200 minutes in net for the Academy in 2008 and made nine saves for a 0.40 goals against average.
