Academy Defeats Queen City FC, 1-0, in Buffalo
July 13, 2007-Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for Queen City FC as they lost to the Long Island Academy, 1-0, tonight in Buffalo. First place Queen City dropped to 6-2-1. Their only two losses have come to the Academy.
Third place Long Island improves to 4-2-3, one point behind the Atlantic City Diablos in the National Premier Soccer League's Northeast Conference.
"Tonight was a great win," exclaimed Long Island Academy head coach Paul Riley. "The back line played really well, Derek Reid and Oliver Skelding played together for the very first time and did very well."
"Forward Maurice Brown had his best game of the season," Coach Riley continued.
The game's lone goal was scored in the 20th minute. Matt Uy chipped a long through pass over two defenders that Juan Melgar ran onto and scored on a breakaway.
Long Island keeper Billy Gatti made eight saves for the shutout.
The Academy concludes its regular season with a match this Sunday night at Real Shore (0-8-0) before moving on to the playoffs.
