It's Academic as Long Island Defeats NYAC, 6-2, in Local Derby

July 15, 2009, Pelham, NY-Those who think that soccer is a low-scoring game should have been at the New York Athletic Club tonight as the Long Island Academy defeated NYAC, 6-2, in a local derby in the National Premier Soccer League. The Academy improve to 4-1-3 while NYAC drops to 1-6-0.

Julian Escobar scored two goals for the Academy while Jose Batista, Mike Daly, Kevin Davies and Christian Uy added one apiece. Hernando Santamaria made five saves in goal for the Academy.

"We played well and dominated the game, as we have all season. We kept possession of the ball and went forward," commented Academy head coach Adrian Gaitan.

The Academy swept the season series from NYAC as they had won at home, 3-0, on June 3. Their all-time record against NYAC improves to 3-0-1.
