Academy Ties Aztecs, 1-1, in Boston
June 19, 2007-Although it might not be as intense a New York-Boston rivalry as Yankees-Red Sox, Jets-Patriots, Knicks-Celtics or Rangers-Bruins, the Long Island Academy and Boston Aztecs are creating a nice rivalry themselves.
After the Academy defeated the Aztecs, 4-1, at Mitchel Athletic Complex last Friday night, they played to a 1-1 stalemate in Boston tonight.
In the National Premier Soccer League standings, the Academy is 2-0-3 while Boston is 2-2-2.
After a Boston goal in the 35th minute, the Academy's Shaun Higgins of Queens knotted it up in the 68th minute off an assist from Adam Bruh of East Williston. Long Island keeper Billy Gatti of Baldwin made five saves in the match.
Long Island's Karim Diallo and Maurice Brown missed opportunities near the end of the match to give the Academy the victory.
"We were not at our best tonight but we did receive a point on the road," commented Long Island head coach Paul Riley.
The Academy returns home for a Sunday night, June 24 encounter with 0-4-0 Real Shore. The match kicks off at 7:30 pm at Mitchel Athletic Complex.
