Academy Win in Maine, Fury Postponed on Long Island

June 14, 2008-The Long Island Academy defeated the Maine Sting, 4-1, in Maine today while the Fury's match at Mitchel Athletic Complex this evening was postponed in the 24th minute due to lightning.

Paul O'Toole put the Sting in the lead with a goal in the 7th minute.

In the 42nd minute, Academy goalkeeper Billy Gatti sent a long 50-yard free kick that Keith Detelj headed into the goal.

Starting off the second half, Detelj dribbled upfield and crossed the ball to Jose Batista who volleyed it into the net . In the 52nd minute, the order was reversed as Detelj headed a goal off a Batista corner kick.

Academy captain Danny Leon sent a through-pass to Gustavo Dias who scored on a breakaway in the 89th minute for the game's final goal.

The Academy dominated a match in which they had an 11-3 corner kick advantage. They improve to 4-0-1.

The 6-0-0 Fury's match against the Philadephia Liberty at Mitchel Athletic Complex was postponed in the 24th minute due to lightning and thunder. The Fury's Leigh Anne Cummings and Tiffany Yovino scored while the Liberty's Jill Hutchinson tallied two goals in an end-to-end affair that unfortunately had to be curtailed because of the poor weather.
