Academy Defeats Morristown Colonials, 7-0, in NPSL Opener The Long Island Academy took the Morristown Colonials to school tonight with a 7-0 win. It was the National Premier Soccer League opener for both teams and the first NPSL match for Morristown ever. Long Island's Gustavo Dias scored a three-goal hat trick and added one assist to lead all the scorers. Game MVP Jose Batista scored two goals and had three assists, captain Daniel Leon had one goal and one assist, Arman Osooli scored one goal plus Shaun Higgins and David Leon each added one assist. The Academy led 4-0 at halftime of a game that they dominated. Academy keepers Billy Gatti and Mike Hurley shared the shutout in goal. "It was a great start to the season," commented Long Island Academy FC Director of Football Paul Riley. "We used a really young team tonight and settled down right after Arman scored in the first minute." "Gustavo Dias scored a hat trick, so you could not dream of a better debut for him," Riley concluded. "Our players were flying into the locker room after winning our first game." The 1-0-0 Academy's first home game is Friday night, May 30, 8:00 pm at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point as they take on the Atlantic City Diablos. Their sister team, the Long Island Fury, open at home this Wednesday, May 21, 7:30 pm vs. the New York Athletic Club, also at Kings Point.
